Set it up yourself
Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: Grok.
Step 1: Set search terms
- Define the topic/keywords for the monitor (your market, brand, campaigns).
- Add volume anchors to compare (e.g. overall posts about the category).
- Store terms in the flow.
- Test the query returns posts.
- Refine terms weekly.
Watch out: Include your category terms, not just your brand — brand-only sentiment misses the market-level shifts your briefs need.
Step 2: Get API access
- xAI API key (or X API with the right entitlement).
- Confirm the access level supports the volume (daily queries × terms).
- Store the key.
- Test the call.
- Watch rate limits early.
Watch out: Daily multi-term queries can exhaust a basic tier quickly — test volume early and add caching if you hit the ceiling.
Step 3: Add the monitor prompt
- Build: 'Analyze these posts. Return: sentiment split (%, +/0/− and one-line why), top 5 posts by engagement with links, 3 emerging narratives, notable verified accounts, anything unusual. Be specific with counts.'
- Instruct: base sentiment on text, not follower count.
- Paste with API key.
- Test on a day's data.
- Check the narratives are real, not invented.
Watch out: The 'invented narratives' risk is real with sentiment tools — every claim should trace to actual posts in the output.
Step 4: Deliver the report
- Daily schedule (e.g. 8am) producing the structured report.
- Deliver via email or a monitored Slack channel.
- Flag sentiment shifts > 10% vs yesterday.
- Add a weekly trend line of the sentiment split.
- Review the weekly trend with the team.
Watch out: The trend line beats the daily number — a single day's dip is noise; a two-week slide is a signal you need to see.
