Set it up yourself
Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: Grok, Gmail.
Step 1: Define your topics
- List the 3-10 topics you watch (competitors, market segments, your niche's news).
- For each, write 2-3 search phrases the agent should use.
- Put them in a sheet the workflow reads.
- Decide daily vs weekly per topic (news-y = daily, market analysis = weekly).
- Test the workflow reads the list.
Watch out: Fewer well-defined topics beat a sprawling list — each topic costs tokens on every run, and unfocused briefs get skimmed then ignored.
Step 2: Get API access
- Create the xAI API key (console.x.ai) with live web/X access enabled on the model you call.
- If using DeepSearch-style agents, confirm your plan includes it.
- Store the key.
- Test one research call returns sources.
- Check the sources are real and recent.
Watch out: 'Live' access is a plan/endpoint property — if your calls return training-cutoff data, your 'deep research brief' is just a stale summary.
Step 3: Add the brief prompt
- Build: 'Research {topic}. Return a brief: (1) 3-sentence summary, (2) the 5 most important recent developments with dates and sources, (3) key disagreements in reporting, (4) one thing to watch next. Cite every claim.'
- Instruct: no claims without sources.
- Paste with API key.
- Test the output on one topic.
- Review the citations' accuracy.
Watch out: 'Cite every claim' is the guardrail — a research brief without sources is indistinguishable from a hallucination.
Step 4: Schedule the email
- Per topic: set the schedule (e.g. daily 7am for news topics).
- The flow runs research, then emails the brief to you.
- Format the email cleanly (sections, dates, links).
- Test one scheduled delivery.
- Review a week of briefs before trusting fully.
Watch out: Set the email for before your reading time but after the markets/news settle — a 7am brief on the day's early news beats an 9am one that you scroll past.
