Monitoring & Intelligence

Grok Brand Mention Monitor

Every X (Twitter) mention of your brand, with sentiment — straight to Slack.

Saves about ~2 hrs per week

What it does

  • Watches X for mentions of your brand and products
  • Classifies sentiment and volume in real time
  • Posts notable mentions to your #brand channel
  • Flags spikes — good or bad — before they become a problem

How it works

  1. Scan runs on a schedule
  2. Mentions pulled from X
  3. Sentiment and significance scored
  4. Notable mentions posted to Slack

What's included

  • Keyword setup
  • Sentiment scoring
  • Slack alerts

Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: Grok, Slack.

Step 1: Get API access

  1. For Grok's own X access: create an xAI API key at https://console.x.ai.
  2. If using the X API directly, create an app at https://developer.x.com with the search/tweet read entitlement.
  3. Note your token and its access level (basic v2 search is usually enough).
  4. Store it in the workflow.
  5. Test one search query returns recent tweets.

Watch out: X API access levels vary — check you have the search:tweet read scope or every mention scan returns empty.

Step 2: Set your keywords

  1. List the search terms: your brand, product names, and common misspellings.
  2. Add 'OR' between them if your platform supports it (brand OR brandapp OR @brand).
  3. Exclude your own handles/servers so your own posts don't count as mentions.
  4. Add a min-followers filter to cut spam if your tool supports it.
  5. Test the query returns relevant results, not junk.

Watch out: The exclude-self filter is the difference between 'brand monitor' and 'retweet log' — without it half your mentions are your own posts.

Step 3: Add the scoring prompt

  1. Build: 'Classify this X mention. Return JSON: {sentiment: positive|negative|mixed, significance 0-100, isComplaint, notableAccount, suggestedReply}.'
  2. Significance = how much it should matter (big account, viral, support complaint, or just noise).
  3. isComplaint → always flag for action.
  4. Paste with API key.
  5. Test on a sample of real mentions.

Watch out: 'Noise vs notable' scoring is what keeps the channel viable — posting every single mention drowns the one that matters.

Step 4: Connect Slack

  1. Create the #brand channel and a Slack incoming webhook.
  2. Post only: significant/negative mentions + a daily count line.
  3. Include the tweet link in each post.
  4. Add a weekly roundup of volume and sentiment trend.
  5. Test the posting format.

Watch out: Post notable + negative only; a daily count line covers the volume without flooding. A brand channel that posts everything gets muted by the CEO.
