Regulatory Change Monitor

Tracks the regulations that touch your business and flags what changes.

Saves about ~2 hrs per week

What it does

  • Monitors the regulator pages and feeds that apply to you
  • Detects new or changed rules
  • Summarizes what changed and who it affects
  • Alerts you when an effective date approaches

How it works

  1. Regulator sources crawled
  2. Changes detected
  3. AI summarizes each change
  4. Effective-date alerts fire

What's included

  • Regulator feeds
  • Change detection
  • Date alerts

Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: OpenCrawl, Claude.

Step 1: List your regulator sources

  1. Identify the regulators that touch you (tax, data protection, your industry body).
  2. Add their guidance/publication feeds to the crawl.
  3. Test the extraction of announcements + effective dates.
  4. Store the source list.
  5. Review the list quarterly.

Watch out: Include effective dates in the extraction — a changed rule without its date is half useful.

Step 2: Detect changes

  1. Use content-hash comparison like the site-change monitor (normalize, hash, diff).
  2. Flag new announcements and revised pages.
  3. Dedupe updates to the same rule.
  4. Test with a controlled change.
  5. Review the diff quality.

Watch out: Regulators append 'updated X' footers constantly — normalize those out or every page appears changed every week.

Step 3: Add the summary prompt

  1. Build: 'Summarize this regulatory change: what changed, who it applies to, key dates, and 1-line impact on a small business. No legal advice — flag 'consult a professional' for anything unclear.'
  2. Plain English, short.
  3. Paste with API key.
  4. Test on an actual recent change.
  5. Keep the disclaimer.

Watch out: Keep the 'not legal advice' framing — an automation summarizing compliance without the disclaimer is a professional liability.

Step 4: Set the date alerts

  1. Track effective dates in a sheet.
  2. Alert 90, 30, and 7 days before each effective date.
  3. Post alerts to your compliance channel.
  4. Add the summary with each alert.
  5. Review the calendar monthly.

Watch out: The 90/30/7 cadence is what turns a rule change into real compliance lead time — without it you discover 'new law' after it's in force.
