News / Industry Digest

A morning digest of the news that matters for your market — filtered, not everything.

Saves about ~1 hr per week

What it does

  • Fetches headlines from your industry sources
  • Filters to what matters for your business
  • Summarizes each story in two lines
  • Emails the digest every morning

How it works

  1. News sources fetched
  2. Relevance filter applied
  3. Two-line summaries written
  4. Digest emailed daily

What's included

  • Source list
  • Relevance filters
  • Daily email

Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: OpenCrawl, Claude.

Step 1: Add your sources

  1. List the RSS feeds and newsletters that matter: niche press, specific analyst blogs, competitor blogs.
  2. Add them to the fetch scope (RSS parse or URL crawl).
  3. Test the fetch returns recent items.
  4. Keep the list under 15 sources.
  5. Prune sources that produce nothing relevant.

Watch out: Your 3 niche feeds beat 30 general tech feeds — the digest is about your market, not the world.

Step 2: Set the filters

  1. Define your interest keywords + companies (the things that change your business).
  2. Add a blocklist of stories you don't care about (generic AI hype, funding roundups without your niche).
  3. Test the filter on a week of headlines.
  4. Refine monthly.
  5. Store the filter list.

Watch out: The blocklist is what makes the digest genuinely personal — it stops the AI from pushing you the same boilerplate 'AI is changing X' pieces.

Step 3: Add the summary prompt

  1. Build: 'From these headlines, keep the stories that clearly matter to {our market}. For each: 2-line summary, why it matters to us, and any action it suggests. Skip everything else.'
  2. Keep each summary to 2 lines.
  3. Paste with API key.
  4. Test on yesterday's feed.
  5. Check the 'why it matters' lines are grounded.

Watch out: 'Why it matters' should reference your market, not generic implications — 'this changes pricing in our niche' beats 'AI continues to transform industries'.

Step 4: Schedule the email

  1. Daily schedule (e.g. 7am).
  2. Email the digest with source links.
  3. Cap at 8 stories.
  4. Add a 'read first' flag for the top 2.
  5. Review the daily digest weekly for quality.

Watch out: Cap at 8 — a digest that grows to 20 stories anecdotally re-touches your sources and stops being a digest.
