Promo / Code Leak Monitor

Catches leaked discount codes and coupon sites skimming your margin.

Saves about ~1 hr per week

What it does

  • Searches coupon sites and socials for your codes
  • Flags your discount codes that went public
  • Alerts on suspicious new 'working' codes
  • Tracks your active cohorts' exposure

How it works

  1. Coupon sources crawled
  2. Your codes matched
  3. Leaked codes flagged
  4. Alert with the source link

What's included

  • Coupon source list
  • Code patterns
  • Leak alerts + rotation

Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: OpenCrawl.

Step 1: List the coupon sources

  1. Add the coupon aggregators for your market (Honey/RetailMeNot-style sites, niche coupon forums).
  2. Add social search feeds if available.
  3. Test the crawl finds your brand name/code patterns on them.
  4. Store the source list.
  5. Review monthly.

Watch out: Coupon sites list code variations your discount isn't even part of — searching your brand on them surfaces both real leaks and phantom listings.

Step 2: Define your code patterns

  1. List your current campaign codes and their prefix patterns.
  2. Add 'brand + 10%o ff' style pattern searches.
  3. Store the patterns in a sheet.
  4. Test the matching finds your actual codes.
  5. Update when new campaigns launch.

Watch out: Pattern matching beats code-exact — leaked codes often get garbled on coupon sites ('SAVE10OFF' → 'SAVE10O'), and the pattern catches the intent.

Step 3: Flag and alert

  1. When a match is found, alert to Slack/email: code, source URL, date.
  2. Rate the leak: active campaign code = high; expired = low.
  3. Track leak count per campaign in a sheet.
  4. Test the alert path.
  5. Investigate high leaks (which channel leaked it).

Watch out: The campaign-level leak count is the real deliverable — knowing which influencer channel leaked the code weekly is how you stop the margin bleed at the source.

Step 4: Act on the leaks

  1. For active-code leaks, rotate the code and notify affected users.
  2. For channel leaks, address the channel that shared it.
  3. Weekly leak report.
  4. Track margin recovered (leaked-redemption estimates).
  5. Review the program's cost monthly.

Watch out: Rotation is the standard answer — a leaked unlimited code should die fast; the report tells you whether the leak is one-off or systemic.
