Standup Recap Collector
Team standup updates collected and summarized into a single written recap.
Saves about ~30 min per week
What it does
- Collects written standup updates from your team
- Summarizes yesterday, today, and blockers
- Posts a single recap to the channel
- Flags blockers that need a human eye
How it works
- Standup form or thread collects updates
- AI summarizes the responses
- Recap posted to the channel
- Blockers flagged with names
What's included
- Update collector
- Recap prompt
- Schedule + blockers
Set it up yourself
Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: Slack.
Step 1: Set up the collector
- Choose the collection: a daily repeatable form, or a Slack thread where everyone posts.
- Fields: what I did, what's next, blockers.
- Make it a standing link (repeat the form link daily).
- Keep it optional-but-statused (a skipped day reads as 'no update').
- Test one team member's update lands.
Watch out: A standing form link (same link every day) beats creating a new one — bookmarked daily gets filled; a new form daily gets missed.
Step 2: Add the recap prompt
- Build: 'Combine these standup updates into one recap: Yesterday / Today / Blockers sections, one line per person. Keep the tone neutral. Under 150 words.'
- Instruct to keep names.
- Paste with API key.
- Test on a few updates.
- Trim long updates.
Watch out: Keeping names is essential — a recap 'someone is blocked' without naming who is a dead end; the recap should let anyone find the person.
Step 3: Schedule the post
- Daily schedule (e.g. 10am) after updates are in.
- Post the recap to the team channel.
- Flag blockers in a separate line with names.
- Test one day's cycle.
- Adjust the time to fit your updates window.
Watch out: Post after the updates close but before lunch — a 10am recap of a 9am standup is fresh; a 4pm recap is yesterday's news.
Step 4: Add blocker flags
- Detect blocker keywords (blocked, waiting on, stuck, need).
- In the recap, surface blockers first.
- Optionally DM the team lead with blockers summary.
- Test the detection.
- Review weekly whether blockers get resolved.
Watch out: Blockers-first ordering means the recap is an action document, not a status log — the point is unblocking, not reporting.
