Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: Shopify, Claude.

Step 1: Connect Shopify products

  1. In Shopify admin, create a custom app (Settings → Apps → Develop apps) with read_products scope.
  2. Copy the Admin API token (shpat_).
  3. In the workflow, add a trigger 'product created/updated' or poll the products endpoint.
  4. Capture: title, body_html, product_type, tags, image URLs.
  5. Test the read returns a product's details.

Watch out: Capture the product's existing tags/type — they carry the specs the description should use.

Step 2: Add the writing prompt

  1. Build: 'Write a Shopify product description for {product}. Use the specs and tags as source. Structure: 1) hook sentence, 2) benefit-focused paragraph, 3) 5 bullet specs, 4) sizing/care note. Also generate: SEO title ≤60 chars, meta description ≤155 chars.'
  2. Inject your brand voice (paste a one-line note).
  3. Instruct: no invented specs, only use provided data.
  4. Paste with API key.
  5. Test on one product and review quality.

Watch out: Only-use-provided-data is critical — invented specs (wrong fabric, wrong size) create returns and refunds.

Step 3: Set the voice guide

  1. Add a brand voice column or doc: tone words, do's/don'ts, one example description.
  2. Reference it in every product generation.
  3. Keep it short — a single product example is worth 10 adjectives.
  4. Update the example quarterly.
  5. Test consistency across two product generations.

Watch out: Voice consistency across the catalog is what makes the store feel designed — refresh the example when you rebrand.

Step 4: Route for approval

  1. Drafts go to a review queue (sheet or your CMS draft).
  2. Include the SEO title + meta description + bullets as separate columns for easy copy.
  3. Approve → import into Shopify (title, body_html, seo fields).
  4. Log what shipped so you don't re-generate.
  5. Review the first 10 with a critical eye before granting trust.

Watch out: Keep human approval in the flow — one mediocre description in a review queue is fine; one shipped bad one is a customer question.
