Sales & Lead Capture

Competitor-Switch Intent Monitor

Leads who name a competitor get flagged and drafted outreach to flip them.

Saves about ~2 hrs per week

What it does

  • Scans public sources and inbound notes for competitor mentions
  • Flags mentions that signal switch intent (complaints, churn, RFPs)
  • Scores each by how close the prospect is to switching
  • Posts high-intent leads to Slack with a drafted angle

How it works

  1. Sources crawled on schedule
  2. Competitor mentions detected
  3. Switch-intent signals scored
  4. High-intent leads posted with angle

What's included

  • Source list
  • Signal rubric
  • Slack alerting + angle drafts

Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: OpenCrawl, Slack.

Step 1: List your sources

  1. Sources: competitor customer pages, review sites, job boards, subreddits, plus your own inbound notes field.
  2. Add each to the crawl scope (OpenCrawl sites, or RSS/keyword feeds).
  3. Add competitor names + misspellings + product jargon as keywords.
  4. Create a sheet 'Switch Intents' to store candidates.

Watch out: Include review-site and subreddit sources — that is where 'I'm leaving {competitor}' posts live.

Step 2: Add the signal rubric

  1. Switch signals: complaints about pricing, churn mentions, RFPs naming competitor, 'looking for alternatives', feature gaps.
  2. Write them as a rubric for the AI.
  3. Include anti-signals: press mentions, job posts (companies grow, not churn), generic praise.
  4. Save the rubric text block.

Watch out: Press and job posts are the classic false positives — the anti-signal list is what keeps the alert channel useful.

Step 3: Score and post

  1. Build the AI prompt: 'Score this item 0-100 for competitor-switch intent using my rubric. Return JSON: {score, signal, suggestedAngle}.'
  2. For high scores (70+) build the Slack message: source URL, company, signal, and a one-line suggested angle.
  3. Post to #switch-intent with a 24h dedupe (store seen URLs in the sheet).
  4. Test with a few known examples.

Watch out: The dedupe is a must — the same review site post recurs on every crawl cycle without it.

Step 4: Act on the intents

  1. Weekly: export high-intent leads with angles to your outbound list.
  2. Mark each row: contacted, replied, converted.
  3. Review which angles generated replies to tune the weekly exports.
  4. Watch for clusters (a cohort of churning competitor customers) and build a targeted campaign.

Watch out: Speed matters: churn signals decay fast — weekly export keeps you inside the window.
