About the Base64 Encoder / Decoder

Encode a token, embed a small image in CSS or inspect a Base64 payload. This tool handles multi-byte characters correctly, offers URL-safe output, and decodes files without uploading them.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose encode or decodePaste text or drop a file; the decoder also accepts data URLs.
  2. 2Select the alphabetStandard Base64 or URL-safe Base64 without padding, depending on where the value is going.
  3. 3Copy or downloadText results copy in one click; binary results download as a file.

Why use this base64 encoder / decoder?

  • Nothing leaves your device. The work happens in your browser tab. There is no upload endpoint in this app, so your files and text cannot be stored, logged or seen by us.
  • No upload wait. You skip the round trip to a server entirely. Results are limited by your own CPU, not by network speed or queue size.
  • Free, no account, no quotas. No sign-up wall, no watermark, no daily limit. Optional accounts only exist to save favourites and presets across devices.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text safe to use here?

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you paste or open is sent to a server, and the page keeps no copy after you close it.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Every tool is fully usable without signing in. An account only adds saved favourites and reusable presets.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The interface is mobile-first with large touch targets and a stacked layout, so it works on phones and tablets as well as desktops.

Why does Base64 make data larger?

Base64 represents every three bytes as four ASCII characters, which adds about 33% overhead. It is an encoding for transport, not a compression method.

What is URL-safe Base64?

It replaces + with - and / with _, and often removes trailing = padding, so the value can be placed in a query string or JWT without escaping.
