Set it up yourself

Follow these 4 steps in order. You will need accounts for: Shopify, Gmail.

Step 1: Enable wishlist capture

  1. Use your theme's wishlist app or add a hook that saves wishlist items to a sheet.
  2. Columns: Customer Email, Product, Variant, Added Date, Status.
  3. Only capture out-of-stock items for this flow (the waitlist concept).
  4. Test adding an item to the list.

Watch out: Capture variant, not just product — 'back in stock' for the wrong size is a dead email.

Step 2: Watch inventory

  1. Reuse the inventory-read app token (read_inventory + read_products).
  2. Poll inventory daily.
  3. Compare against the wishlist sheet for products whose qty went 0 → >0.
  4. Test by setting a product's stock via admin.

Watch out: Poll on a schedule rather than a webhook — inventory webhooks miss some update paths.

Step 3: Send the notification

  1. Email: 'It's back: {product} is in stock again' with image, price, and CTA.
  2. Add the variant specifics (size/color).
  3. Send within the same polling cycle as detection.
  4. Mark the wishlist row 'notified' immediately.
  5. Test end-to-end.

Watch out: Speed decides conversion — a restock email 8 hours late has often missed the stock window.

Step 4: Clean the list

  1. Mark notified rows and exclude from future runs.
  2. Add a 'notified 3+ times, no purchase' cap (stop emailing).
  3. Purge entries older than 90 days.
  4. Review monthly how many restock notifications converted.

Watch out: The repeated-email cap protects your brand — three no-purchase notifications is the respectful limit.
